Martin Josephs Library Fund

The Martin Josephs Library Fund was named for a man who devoted 25 years to the creation and development of the synagogue’s original library in West Oak Lane. Marty Josephs, a life member of the Temple Sinai Board, promoted fundraising lectures by famous authors such as James Michener, Eleanor Roosevelt, Robert St. John, Harry Golden and many others. In addition to the hundreds of books he received from publishers as gifts for the library, he also presented many volumes on his own. Books for the Religious School were given at half price as he had many connections within the publishing industry. Marty’s other great interest at Temple Sinai was scouting. Being an Eagle Scout with 36 merit badges, he was Cub Scout Master and later, Scout Master over a ten year period in the late 1940’s and ‘50’s. The Josephs family has belonged to Temple Sinai for almost 60 years.
