| Pearl & Ted Weitz Scholarship Fund |

The Weitz family has been a part of the Temple Sinai family since 1955. Ted was an active participant in the daily minyan, a “regular” at Shabbat services, and a member of the Men’s Club. His wife, Pearl, was a life member of B’nai Brith and Hadassah. The two were blessed with many happy occasions at Temple Sinai including the b’nai mitzvah and confirmation of their children and grandchildren. In contributing their time, talents and generosity to yeshivot and other sources of Jewish education, they shared the importance of giving back to the Temple Sinai community. The Ted and Pearl Weitz Scholarship Fund was originally created in 1982 as the Ted Weitz Scholarship Foundation, a gift from the Weitz family in honor of Ted’s 75th birthday. Arleen, Stu and Marci, Adam and David have pledged the continuity of this very special fund in loving memory of their parents and grandparents. In a letter to Ted in 1982, Rabbi Sidney Greenberg wrote: “For some time now I have been meaning to write to you and tell you how delighted I am that a scholarship has been created at Temple Sinai in your name on the occasion of your recent birthday celebration of a very important number. It is very appropriate that your name be linked with educational opportunities provided for the young. In my mind you will always be young because you know how to laugh and to make others laugh. It is a great gift that you have and share. Never lose it. On behalf of the young people who will be the beneficiaries of the generosity shown in your honor, I thank you very much.” |
